Bioidentical Hormones

LIVE HEALTHIER, LIVE HAPPIER!

NOW OFFERING BIO IDENTICAL HORMONE REPLACEMENT THERAPY (BHRT) FOR MEN AND WOMEN

What are bio identical hormones?
Bio identical hormone therapy (BHRT) is therapy that will help return your hormone balance to youthful levels.  Bio identical hormones are compounded at specialized pharmacies and are made to match the hormones in your body exactly on a molecular level. Since pharmaceutical companies cannot patent natural or bio identical compounds, their products are synthetic and differ chemically as well as clinically. BHRT and synthetic hormones are not the same thing and the terms cannot be used interchangeably. BHRT includes thyroid, estrogen, progesterone, testosterone, and DHEA.  Appropriate supplementation may be helpful and preventative.

How do I know if BHRT is right for me?
Determining if you are a candidate is based on clinical symptoms and lab tests. The nurse practitioner will meet with you and discuss your symptoms in depth and order lab tests, if appropriate. Some common symptoms of hormonal imbalance include anxiety, irritability, depression, fatigue, decreased libido, muscle aches/joint pain, decreased stamina and motivation, mental fogginess, forgetfulness, hot flashes, night sweats, poor sleep, headaches, weight gain/belly fat, dry skin, and cold extremities.

What are the different forms of BHRT?
Bio identical hormones come in various forms, such as oral medications, creams, patches, and pellets. The testosterone injections are synthetic but this is still a good option for some. We will discuss the different options in-depth at your first appointment. Together, we can determine what will work best for your lifestyle.

What are pellets?
Pellets are a form of BHRT. They are made from yams and soy. They are inserted in the subcutaneous tissue in your hip. Absorption rate is based on cardiac output and it is different for each individual. If you are very active or under a lot of stress or if it is extremely hot, your treatment may not last as long.

Are pellets FDA approved?
What the pellets are made of is FDA approved and regulated. The process of making the pellets is regulated by the State Pharmacy Board and the distribution is regulated by the DEA and Respective State Pharmacy Boards. The PROCEDURE of placing the pellets is NOT an FDA approved procedure.

How are the pellets administered?
After the area is numbed, a small incision is made in the hip and the pellets are inserted in the fat under the skin. No stitch is required.

Are there any side effects?
The majority of side effects are temporary and typically only happen after the first dose, as your body adjusts. All are very treatable. There are no serious side effects.

Does insurance pay for BHRT?
Labs are covered by most insurance companies however, since BHRT is considered “alternative therapy”, it is usually not covered. Recently, there have been a few insurance companies that have done partial reimbursements for patients. I will provide you with the paperwork to file with your insurance company but I do not accept insurance for BHRT.

What methods of payment do you accept?

We accept Master Card, Visa, Discover, American Express, Personal Checks, and Cash. Medical Financing also available.
